Handraising feathered family members in Plymouth, MN
Hello everyone! My name is Anna Kai. I'm a bird enthusiast from Plymouth, MN. Several years ago I moved to Minnesota from Europe, bringing my passion with me overseas: companion birds.
I handraise several parrot species: Green-Cheeked Conures, Linnies, Cockatiels, Bourke's Parakeets, and Splendid Parakeets. I believe these species make the best feathered companions, especially when raised in a loving environment!
Green-Cheeked Conures
These guys are known to be the clowns of the captive bird world because of their love of acrobatics and tricks. They can be very affectionate and cuddly. They're a great choice if you're looking for a velcro bird.
Green-Cheeked Conures
My second pair of conures. Their babies are sought after because of their deep turquoise plumage. Cosmo's dad is a normal green bird and Aurora's mom is yellow-sided green, ensuring that this pair has healthy offspring.
Green-Cheeked Conures
My third and final pair of green-cheeked conures. Saul is a high red suncheek, and Luna is a gorgeous mooncheek. Despite their fancy mutations, which involve a complex combination of genes, they both come from healthy bloodlines with one green parent each.
Lineolated Parakeets
Adorable little birdies native to South America. They are considered apartment-friendly due to the low noise level. Some (like my Jade and Sputnik) are great talkers. Loving and very calm when hand raised. This pair has lutino, green, turquoise, and creamino babies.
Lineolated Parakeets
My second pair of lineolated parakeets. They have beautiful cobalt and turquoise babies. Sputnik comes from two green split turquoise parents and Laika's dad is a green bird as well, ensuring that this pair has healthy offspring.
Cockatiels
This well-known Australian species makes a wonderful family addition for first-time bird parents. They're extremely friendly and gentle and may be good at mimicking noises and whistles. Pascal and Melody have orange, white, and pastel cheek offspring.
Cockatiels
My second pair of cockatiels. This beautiful heavy pied pair produces white and cream face babies.
Bourke's Parakeets
These bright pink parakeets look almost unreal. Their unique coloration originates from Central Australia where they blend in with the reddish soil. They're the most laid-back birds you can dream of, very friendly and quiet as well.
Bourke's Parakeets
My second pair of Bourke's parakeets. Jasper truly lives up to his name, with almost every color imaginable gracing his back. Amber, a high-yellow rubino from the Kai Birds breeding program, complements him beautifully. Together, they produce gorgeous rainbow babies.
Splendid Parakeets
Another species of grass parakeets that is perfectly compatible with their pink relatives. These gorgeous little birds are always on the move, in contrast to bourkes. However, they remain remarkably quiet and are strikingly vivid in appearance. Also known as scarlet-chested parrots, their distinctive bright red chest sets the males apart from the females.
